Question: Hi, I am a 23 year old female that is looking for answers. Almost a year ago I was in Vegas for work and all a sudden I felt a really sharp pain in my back. So at first I thought it was like a muscle spasm or whatever so I jumped in the shower turned the heat up hoping it would help but it made it worse. It then became very difficult to breathe which leaning over made it a lot better. My friend had brought me to the emergency room and they did a blood test and ct scan and had mentioned that some of the sacs in my lung had collapsed. So basically they explained it was a minor lung collapse and gave me breathing treatment. However, a few months after that my right lung started to have a sharp pain but would only last a few seconds and go away. So I went to the doctors and I am military so I requested to be seen off base. The specialist ruled out asthma and couldn't really tell me why it had happened he mentioned that it could have been initially from pneumonia but looking back I wasn't sick. Over the span of a couple weeks it disappeared but now it is November almost a year later. I went for a run and I get a dull nagging pain in my right lung almost under my arm and sometimes in the center of my chest at the bottom of my ribs. My right collar bone is oddly larger than my left and often pops really loud which I don't know if that would have anything to do with it but just incase.

Brief Answer:
No, larger collar bone is not related to this.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the reports history you have given.
Most common cause for lung collapse is retention of secretions.
So you might had mucus plug (secretions) blocking the air pipe (airways) which is causing collapse of distal lung tissue.
Once these mucus secretions are gone, collapsed lung expands.
And no association between larger collar bone and this incidence.
Please let me know
1. Was you given any medicines (mucolytic) or only breathing treatment?
2. Do you smoke?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

I do not smoke which is also why I found it odd.
Also they only gave me a mask breathing treatment.
When I was younger I used to get really sharp pain in my lung where it became so painful to breathe for like 2 mins but would only come every year or so.

Brief Answer:
Get done PFT.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
It's good that you are a nonsmoker.
In my opinion, you should get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) to rule out subclinical bronchitis because this can also cause mucus plugs.
Please let me know if you have ever undergone PFT.
You also need to practice deep breathing exercises to strengthen your lungs and prevent mucus plugs.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
