Question: Hi! I am a 31 year old woman. On Saturday night I drank a good amount of alcohol on an almost empty stomach. On sunday morning I was feeling nauseous so i decided make myself throw up. The first time was fine, the second time, there was blood in my vomit. I was feeling fine after and feeling fine today besides anxiety. I am scared it is something very serious.

Probably a bleeding ulcer, follow the advice below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Blood in vomit is very common after drinking.

Some of the common causes are gastritis, a bleeding ulcer, and simple tears of the food pipes.

I recommend using medication to lower the acidity the stomach such as Omeprazole 20 mg daily in the morning before breakfast

I also recommend to drink liquids and avoid food that can trigger the symptoms such as spicy food or caffeinated drinks.

If the symptoms continue I suggest to do an endoscopy for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
You can take the medication for two weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,

Thank you for your question.

You can continue this treatment for 7 to 14 days depending on your symptoms.

Most peptic ulcers without heal completely , regardless of the cause.

If the symptoms continue further examinations should be done.

Feel free to contact me again for further clarification.

Take care,

Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi
