Question: Hi, I am a 58 year old male with high blood pressure and was recently diagnosed after blood work that by AC1 is elevated. This I am the pre-diabetes range of about 4.8 or 4.9. My doctor advised me to reduce carbs, exercise, and I am trying to lose 10 pounds before I have a follow up doctors visit. I am African-American, weigh 202, and my height is 5'11'. I have been diagnosed with good kidney function. About 2 years ago, I start visiting a kidney specialist and was Cystic kidney disease; however, my kidney function is good. I started visiting a Kidney specialist to help reduce my blood pressure. It is more stable and my goal is to reduce my AC1 now, too. How can I reduce my AC1?

Brief Answer:
HbA1c level is within normal limit. Please see detailed answer.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, your HbA1c level is 4.8 or 4.9 which is quiet within normal range. The prediabetes range is usually in between 5.7 to 6.4. Kindly upload report image.

I will suggest you to check fasting and post postprandial blood sugar level if not done earlier and follow up with reports.

Your weight is on little higher side and as per your height, weight should be around 180 pounds.

Anyway to keep HbA1c range within normal diet, increase intake of fruits, vegetables, salad, sprouts. Avoid high calorie items like ice cream, cake, fast foods, processed food. Take small meals every 5 to 6 hrs.

Do regular exercises like brisk walking, cycling. Try to reduce weight. Avoid heavy meals.

Along with that kindly do regular blood pressure monitoring. Reduce salt intake in diet.

Let me know I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam Kale.
