Question: Hi. I am a avid runner and heavy bag boxer with weakness in left ankle and left elbow to fingers. I have right side lateral herniated disk in my T6 & T7 with no no spinal cord compression but I do have pain in this area. This is not my concerned area as I have been seen for this. My issues are I have extreme anxiety and under constant stress, I feel like I am in a fog a lot of times. When I drove for the past 3 years I have my left foot bent That put pressure constantly on my peroneal tendon in my ankle. Even after stopping this position I still have soreness in this area when stretching it or applying pressure, I have noticed some pins and needle in this foot, ankle and also feel I do not 100% strength of lifting my foot up and down. I feel I have 90%. I also can sometimes feel this in my knee. This is constant for the past few years since I have driven with awkward position of foot. I also have some weakness in my left elbow to my fingers. I noticed this after hitting heavy boxing bag for almost three years, a few times during workout I could feel a shock in my elbow when hitting bag hard. I feel my fingers are not as coordinated as my right dominate hand. My worries are multiple scelorsis or some neurological disorder.

Brief Answer:
Nerves compression syndromes may be a possibility.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor " service.

I have read your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion, you should not be worried about any serious neurological disorder such as multiple sclerosis, etc.

I think that there are simplier explanations for your issues.

The herniated disc at thoracic level may be linked to the foot and leg symptoms, but, this needs to be confirmed by your Neurologist.

Another possibility for the foot and leg related symptoms is tarsal tunnel syndrome.

The issues with your hand and elbow also may be linked to the ulnar nerve compromise due to the specific physical activity.

I think that nerve conduction studies and ENMG should be performed in order to get a correct understanding of your condition.

Anxiety also should be controlled with anxiolytic drugs.

Discuss with your Neurologist for these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Your answer has helped me feel better, almost a 75% relief emotionally and mental which has in turn make me feel physically better today. My foot still has some weakness/ very light numbness and discomfort near the interior ankle bone and feel some tightness/ behind knee on that same left side after riding a stationary bike workout. Otherwise my hand feels normal today. Anxiety has disappeared. I had CBC done and these are my results if you would look over them. If it is still your opinion not to worry for Neurological issues I will close conversation.

Brief Answer:
CBC results are within normal ranges.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

I saw the CBC tests results that you uploaded and these results are within normal ranges.

I still think that there is not a serious neurological disorder as the basis of your symptoms.

As we discussed previously, nerve compression is a possibility to consider.

So, get evaluated further and feel free to discuss with me if you have further questions.

Take care.
