I am currently on Apixaban for the prevention of DVT. My does is 2.5mg tablets
to take one twice daily from 2/5/2018.
Now the questions I would like to ask are as follows:
1. Can I still do Judo whilst taking this medication?
2. If the risk of excessive bleeding is too high to do contact sports like Judo, then what other alternatives are there, so I can still do Judo as well as have medication for the prevention of DVT?
Are there any private routes I can follow within my own country to find out exactly if I have an inherited condition that was responsible for my dvt in the first place?
Other possible relevant info includes:
Fluoxetine: one capuse of 20mg twize a day for OCD and Anxiety.
Opmeprazole: One capsule of 20mg once a day for acid reflux.
Gener: Male
Age:32.
Protein C, protein S, factor V & anti thrombin III along with INR
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) at young age is probably genetic.
I suggest you to check a complete check for thromboembolic diseases which includes Protein C, protein S, anti-thrombin III, Factor V, mixing studies along with prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and thrombin time (TT).
The cause for thromboembolic phenomenon needs to be known.
If the treatment for DVT is effective then you are not likely to suffer from bleeding or other complications while sporting.
Apxiban is an anti-coagulant which prevents thrombus formation.
You need to monitor the INR on regular basis and it should remain between 2-3 while on medication.
Any increase in INR should be reported promptly to your treating doctor.
Rest you can perform yur routine activities and sporting.
Thanks and take care
