Question: Hi, I am currently on a course of antibiotics 100mg doxycycline twice a day for 14 days. I have now also been prescribed dalacin vaginal cream (clindamycin) for 7 days for bacterial vaginosis. Is it safe to take these both together? Also is it safe to drink alcohol whilst taking both these antibiotics? Thanks

Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using Ask a Doctor. There are no significant interactions between doxycycline and clindamycin, so it should be safe to take them together. Furthermore, since the clindamycin is a cream, the absorption would be minimal and so this would make it even less of a concern. There would be no concern with using alcohol with either of these medications, though if you drink a significant amount every day it may decrease the effectiveness of doxycycline.
