Hi, I Am Hoping Someone Can Help My Mother Out.

Question: Hi, I am hoping someone can help my mother out. She was just diagnosed with Hogkins lymphoma but has been having worsening night sweats and hot flashes along with a 24/7 fevers. Her current doc just has said to give tylenol but we cant go over 4g. Question 1) is there anything at all that can be done before starting chemo to help with night sweats? She hasn't had a nights sleep in months and 2) is there a better recommendation for addressing the non stop fever esp to give her at night? We have been alternating between tylenol 1g and 600mg advil. Thank you
Brief Answer:
Steroids should help
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
If the biopsy has proven hodgkin lymphoma, then steroids can be started before chemotherapy. It should take care of the night sweats and fever.
The typical dose we use is prednisolone 1 mg/kg body weight. However, you should consult her doctor before starting this.
Needless to say, chemotherapy will control these symptoms better, so it should be started as early as possible.
Hope this helps.
