Question: Hi, I am suffering from liver cirrhosis for the past 7 years and from a couple of months back I am getting a recurring fever and was in IV antibiotics for a couple of times. Recently the doctor prescribed me a higher antibiotic and got it through IV for 10 days. After 5 days, suddenly I got low blood pressure but without any fever or other effects.I would like to know the reason and what is the next course.

Brief Answer:
Need few more details.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for asking query on HealthcareMagic,
Have seen your details and I appreciate your concerns,
Very likely the course of I. V antibiotics is not related to low blood pressure. Rather lower intake of salt and improper hydration with change in type of food in hospital may be a cause of mild to moderate lowering of blood pressure.
You have mentioned low blood pressure had been recorded but was it mildly low or severely low.
For further answering the query properly I need few more details.
1)Your initial blood pressure.
2)Drop recorded after I. V antibiotics.
3)Any other medication and food or fluid restrictions you are on especially salt.
Waiting for reply,
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
One episode of mild to moderate lowering of b.p needs no intervention.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again dear,
Don't worry unless the upper blood pressure is less then 90mm of hg and lower is less then 50mm of hg.
Blood pressure have ranges.
Secondly I don't think that there is a correlation between i. V Antibiotic therapy and blood pressure.
As off now i dont feel any thing is needed to be done.
Take care of hydration and taking electrolyte containing sodium potassium and chloride ions like coconut water.
Hope I was helpful,
Thanks.
