Question: Hi , I gave natural birth to a girl baby 58 days ago. After delivery, I had bleeding for just 4-5 days. Then it was only 2-3 drops till 20 days. As everyone said it should be at least for 20-30 days which was not happened in my case. And I had my periods after 30 days which was like usual periods (4-5)days. I'm worried its abnormal and need advise on this. I haven't gone for my postpartum check yet. If required what are all the tests to be taken?

Brief Answer:
The bleeding is not abnormal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for letting us know your health concern.

The bleeding you had after delivery is normal and so is the first cycle. Heavy bleeding does not occur especially when the delivery is vaginal.

When you go for your postnatal check up, you will have a general evaluation, vaginal examination to check if the tissues have healed well, if the uterus has involuted well and to exclude any infection.

Also, if you are lactating, you will be assessed for adequate milk secretion.

You will also be advised postnatal exercises. You will also be advised nutritional supplements to improve your general condition.

You may also be suggested possible ways of contraception.

There are no specific recommended tests, but, your doctor may ask for some, if needed.

Hope you find this information useful. Please feel free to contact for further clarifications. I will be happy to help.

Brief Answer:
Detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing back.

The fact that you had a natural process of bleeding shows that the placenta was delivered intact. If not, you would be bleeding persistently and passing bits and pieces and possibly have a foul smell. Fever can also occur if infection occurs. Retained products of conception are confirmed on ultrasound.

Since all this did not happen, this means that there is nothing abnormal. Please do not worry.

Hope this helps.

regards,
Shanti.V.
