Hi, I Had A Breast MRI For High Risk Screening

Question: Hi, I had a breast MRI for high risk screening in July and they found many fibroadenomas. None of them was biopsied and all said to be benign. I went for an ultrasound scan in September because I wanted to have more clarity and found the same result: many fibroadenomas. I went for one more ultrasound the next month because of a new palpable lump and that turned out to be completely fine but one of the fibroadenomas that was 4mm was now 6mm. The radiologist wasn't sure if it was in fact the same nodule and said to check again in a few months. I am not sure but I'm worried it might be bad and wanted to check again. I was on day 21st of my period and wonder if that can affect a change in size? Should I get it checked again? Is a change from 4 to 6mm considered a rapid growth?

Hi,
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
Fibroadenomas vary in size with hormone effect. So do not worry about it.
Why was this high risk MRI done? If you belong to the high risk please consult surgeon. You may need biopsy too.

If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.

I was considered high risk because of my brca1 mutation. But now it has been reclassified as a variant of unknown significance so I'm not sure what to think. If I needed a biopsy why didn't they do it after the MRI?

Hi
Have you consulted the Onco surgeon. They are the right persons to decide whether you need a biopsy or not.

Hi,
Yes Fibroadenoma changes in size due to hormone effect. I said that you need to consult Onco surgeon personally to check if biopsy is required.

If one is in the high risk group it is important that you have a confirmed diagnosis.

Thanks I just sent the question to the oncologist category, is that correct?
If it's normal for a fibroadenoma to grow during my period I'm a lot more calm. Why would being high risk make a difference?
