Hi, I Had A Mole Examined About A Year Ago

Question: Hi, I had a mole examined about a year ago with the dermatologist, he looked at it closely and said that it looks fine. I noticed a small curved line which looked like a hair next to the mole, I scratched at it and it eventually came off. after I noticed that the part that I circled looked darker to usual. is this something to be concerned about? the before and after pictures were taken with two different phones on different settings, so the colours are a little different. thanks :)

Hi and Welcome to "Ask A Doctor" service. I have read your question and here is my advice.
Mole is a risk factor for skin related malignancy. Few thing like change in colour, size , or irregularities of border are few things that need assessment if happens in a mole.
I have seen the pictures , and though the size and rest do not look too worrisome , but there is a clear change in colour. So this needs evaluation .So I would advise you should see your skin specialist. He would see it in details , and he can also view it with a dermoscope to see the minor details and the plain ahead. Simetimes biopsy is needed.It's always good to be safe.

visually the colour looks the same to me, I'll check with the other camera when I get home, I think it's the same. the only thing that's noticeable is the part that I've circled

Yes things doesnot look very serious , but by seing the picture , I feel some difference specially colour being more darker in the later. .So to be very safe we just need a dermatalogist to have a closer look on this if possible .

Hi again, I took 2 detailed pictures close up with my DSLR, I was hoping you can take a closer look. I also noticed in the picture there's a brown ring to the left of the mole. which was similar to the thing I tried to scratch off.

Thanks for providing more pictures .I Have seen them in good detalis .
Yes I can appreciate that circle what you mentioned it looks like the mole is extending which is not rare. It's similar darkening of the side are as is early stage of a new mole .It's not this side circle that is very important .
Infact the colour of the main mole appears little darkened and a bit raised .That's why I say it's better to be seen by dermataligist .

thanks, I appreciate your response. I took another look at it, where the dark area was I squeezed between my nails and the dark brown/black spot that I said changed came off. I'm not sure if I was some sort of black head or scab...if this was malicious, would the spot have come off? I'll ask the doctor to take a look at it, I'm going there soon to get my ingrown toenail checked anyway :)

Yes you are quite right , and I can see clearly in the picture that how clearer it has got.. And yes this is a good reason to say that spot was not a serious one .Right , it might be black head , or little follicles getting infected / blocked .I am not concerned about that as you rightly mentioned that it was cleared with squeezing only .
But just looking at the main lesionhich has been a little darkish ( not that what you incircled ), I just understand a close look is better on that .
Yes its not an emegency, get relax , and take your time whenever do it when it was feasible for you .
