Question: Hi,
I had my 2nd Knee replacement on 1/3/2020. My 1st was done approx 5 years previously.
After my 2nd replacement, all was going well but something is incorrect. I just had xrays taken and the report is below.
I am worried I have to do it again? Thanks,

CLINICAL HISTORY: Status post right knee replacement January 2020 with right
knee pain and swelling

IMPRESSION: Soft tissue swelling about the right knee prosthesis including what
is probably a joint effusion.
There is a 3 mm lucency between the lateral tibial plateau component and the
underlying bone for which infection must be excluded.
Minor degenerative change of the left knee.

COMMENT: Four views of both knees were performed.

Comparison is made to right knee films obtained immediately following knee
replacement dated 01/03/2020.

A right knee prosthesis is again noted. There is considerable soft tissue
swelling and ill-definition of the suprapatellar soft tissues suggesting a joint
effusion. There is a 3 mm radiolucent gap between the lateral tibial plateau
component and the underlying bone which was not clearly seen previously and is
worrisome for infection. Clinical correlation is advised. Three-phase bone
scan may be of further diagnostic value, as clinically indicated..

There are small spurs at the patellofemoral compartment of the left knee. The
left knee is otherwise unremarkable.
