Hi, I Have TMJ For 10 Years Now. It Really

Question: Hi, I have TMJ for 10 years now. It really hurts my joints. There is sometimes clicking but no popping, but I do notice my neck gets stiff and I crack it often to unlock the stuck joints. The joint is extremely sore and tender to the touch. Hurts to open, cry, eat and talk for extended periods of time. I recently got my 2/4 of my wisdom teeth removed, and noticed a difference, but there's still pain on both sides, especially the left. I tried botox and cortisone shots, but those were only temporarily and the pain came back again. I also tried a nightguard for many many years, but it's still the same issue. When I got my wisdom teeth removed, it improved my bite and I clench less, but I still have the pain. I'm not sure why I'm having pain. I've had an MRI done, they said my disc in my jaw was degenerated due to arthritis, but I don't hear any popping sounds so I'm not sure it's that. I've had x-rays done as well, there was nothing wrong or abnormal found. The pain is like a stabbing pain in the left ear, and feels like it's coming from deep within the ear or gums. I also went to a chiropractor for 5 or so years, it helped when the joints got stuck, but again it was only temporarily. I'm constantly in pain all day everyday, and it's ruining my life. I don't know whether I should get surgery, because I don't know where the problem is coming from and why I'm having pain. Maybe it's the other 2 wisdom teeth? They are impacted. Can you help? Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Can be due to disc degeneration

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for consulting Ask a doctor service.
This is Dr. Priyanka tiwari answering your query.

Read your query and understand your concern. Pain in joint can be due to degeneration of disc secondary to arthritis or it can due to impacted teeth also.

I will suggest you few measures like avoid excessive mouth opening . Restrict your jaw movements. Do hot formentation (using towel dipped and squeezed in hot water) twice daily for month . Apply diclofenac gel on joints twice daily for one month.

Follow these few measures and consult orthopedic for treatment of arthritis to stop disc degeneration process and if you have opg xray and xray of disc kindly upload in report section it will be helpful for me to give you proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

Hope this will help you.
If you have further query i will be happy to help.

Brief Answer:
Detailed below, pain can be due to impacted wisdom tooth

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome

Thanks for uploading opg xray . I have reviewed the opg xray you have attached. You have impacted wisdom tooth on both upper and lower arch so pain might be due to impacted wisdom teeth. So i will also suggest you to consult oral surgeon and go for extraction of wisdom tooth. If pain persists after extraction then pain can be due to disc degeneration.

Hope this will help you.
If you have further query i will be happy to help.
