Question: Hi. I have a ct angiogram that i will be doing this coming Monday. I am freaking out about this test. Just to give you a run down i went to my cardiologist because of heart palpitations which he said he was not concerned about but with my anxiety and panic attacks he thought for ease of mind to do this test. He also gave me a ecg and said that was fine. 2yrs ago i had a ultrasound and a holter monitor which picked up ectopic beats. My current cholesterol level is 4.8 and blood sugar fasting 3.8. My blood pressure is 120/75 almost all the time.. When anxious i have had it raise to 130/80 but i am freaking out that they will find blockages in my heart. I smoke. I dont eat well and am a little overweight. My doctor says stop stressing and that so far all tests i have done have come back re assuring. Still am going crazy. Any advice?

Brief Answer:
Most probably, it will be normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
So there is nothing to suggest possibility of blockages and probably CT angio will be normal or may show minor blockages only. Palpitations and ectopics are usually a benign condition in most of the patients and normal echo, ecg further reduces the probability of any blockages.
So, there is nothing to worry about it at present. Try to think less about it at present. However, you should focus on giving up smoking as it may cause blockages in the future.
The classical symptoms of CAD are chest pain or heaviness or breathlessness on exertion which relieves with rest, which I guess are not there in you. So probability of blockages is low.
Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.

Thank you for the information. Am worried about beta blockers. Am not really comfortable that my heart rate can be slowed down and things like that. What if it slows down to where it wont beat again. Is it possible to bypass the beta blocker thing? I have uploaded the test from 2017 for the holter and ultrasound of the heart to get your opinion and also can much change in results over 2yrs? I had the ecg stuff just last week and everything was normal according to my cardiologist. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Heart will not stop beating with beta blockers

Detailed Answer:
Beta blockers will slow down the heart by sympathetic activity, but will not stop the heart when consumed in optimum dosage. so there is no harm in having it in low dosage. Anyways, beta blockers is just for symptomatic relief as it also suppresses ectopics, but if you can tolerate your symptoms then you may not have it.
You reports 2 years back are fine with ectopics in holter. As there is no fresh event like heart attack or so and there is no reason to change, it's likely to be same.
