Hi I Have A Decaying Tooth On The Bottom Right

Question: Hi
I have a decaying tooth on the bottom right side.
I am going to get it extracted and an implant put in. But I am waiting until october until insurance kicks in. It doesnt cause me any pain, but recently I have noticed my sinus area, around my eye, cheek, and nasal passage, on the same side seems inflammed or slightly swollen. This morning it also appears to be a bit red. It feels puffy. Is this related? Could it be that its infected and it spread? Is it something I should get taken care or sooner or today?

Brief Answer:
it could be related

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

inflammation originating from the teeth may affect the sinuses and cause sinusitis and local infection. Inflammation usually means that the following 4 symptoms are present: redness, swelling, pain and elevated temperature in the inflamed area. Sometimes not all 4 are present for various reasons but pain is usually one the presenting symptoms.

Nevertheless teeth inflammation and sinusitis are indeed related and a doctor should check you in person to identify signs of inflammation. Puffiness associated with sinusitis requires immediate treatment, particularly if fever is also present. Therefore if you've got sinusitis, you should be treated with antibiotics.

Your best next step would be to visit your doctor for assessment today. The pictures you've uploaded are not very clear regarding the symptoms of inflammation (redness, swelling). If you can spot either symptom then an immediate assessment is required nevertheless.

I hope I've answered your question. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
