Hi, I Have A Peculiar Problem That I'm Trying To
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hi, I have a peculiar problem that I'm trying to learn about. My stomach is very sensitive, and I noticed a problem when I was 18 and out of high school. I didn't put everything together until a few years ago. So it doesn't take much to have runny, burning stool. No blood, just really acidic. I seemed to move on from that, so don't really worry too much about it. Okay so here's my problem.
I eat some food, and if it is greasy or heavy, I start feeling like I overate. Sometimes, it doesn't take too much to get me to that point. Now here's the weird part:
Whenever I feel like I over ate, I get bloated and nauseous. No vomiting or runny stool. I have to burp for a few hours to get back to normal, and every time I burp, my nose runs. The gets turned around real quickly. People say that I'm bloated and nauseous because of post nasal drip. But it's actually the reverse. Now, whenever my nose runs and I haven't been sneezing, people ask me if my stomach is messing up. I take 7.5 mg of mirtazapine, and that reduces the occurrences of the issue. With the mirtazapine, I can eat almost anything, any amount, with no issues. For clarity, it's an antidepressant, but it has anti nausea properties and works as an appetite stimulant. I would like to know what's going on here.

I've noticed that my nose runs whenever I'm bloated from eating. It is far less when i take the mirtazapine. It can be triggered like when I over eat like macaroni, cheeseburgers, lasagna. The mirtazinepine had been started by my doctor in 2017 due to anxiety and weightloss due to lack of appetite. Please make sure this part is clear, when I have these bloating and nausea spells, it is rarely from anxiety. I can be completely calm, but if i eat too much, this problem will occur.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.
Running nose after you are bloated from eating which is far less when you take Mirtazapine is classical indication that the problem is related to psychological factor.
Eating too much and getting problems in spite you are completely calm indicates the relation with overeating. Overeating is causing stretching of the stomach muscles which in turn instigate the neuro-hormonal reflex and thus the symptoms.
Hence I would advise you the following:
- First of all, make a list of the foods, beverages, factors that instigate or enhance your symptoms and stop these altogether.
- Regular use of your medication.
- Avoid all the factors that cause psychological upheavals - whether conscious or sub-conscious. You can surely find all these.
- Minimum investigations done may help:
like stool tests for 3 consecutive days,
tests of blood particularly for diabetes and thyroid function.
Upper GI Endoscopy/Barium studies.
Ultrasound of abdomen and CT scan if anything positive.
Opinion of a Gastroenterologist as this can help to have specific diagnosis and specific management.
I hope this answer helps you.
Please give feedback.
Take care.
