Hi I Have A Query On My Semen Analysis Report.
Question: Hi I have a query on my semen analysis report. The report says I have Sper count as 40 million sperms per ml and 80% Active motile and 10% are sluggish. As per WHO and some standards I felt my readings are normal as 20 million sperms per ml is normal range. But the report says total sperm count should be in range of 60-120 million sperms per ml and as mine is 40 million sperms per ml the impression written was oligospermia. Is it true?
Please advise me on this. Many websites say 40 million sperms per ml is the normal range but my report says its low (60-120 is normal range as per diagnostic center's report) and now it resulted as oligospermia but oligospermia's range is 15 million sperms per ml.
Brief Answer:
Your total sperm count is on lower side of normal range
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .
Based on the facts and report of your semen analysis your total sperm count in 2 ml of semen is 40 millions. The normal, range of sperm count as per WHO standard is 20 -60 millions per ml with normal volume of the semen being considered to be 3-5 ml per ejaculate.
Since you have ejaculated only 2 ml of semen and total sperm count being 40 millions which is near to lower side of normal range it is reported to be Oligospermia ..
However it is the percentage of Active grade one sperm (10-15%) that is important from the point of view of resulting into normal conception .
Hence you need not worry at all .Repeat your semen analysis after one month
Following measure will help you to increase sperm count to certain extent
1) Practice regular exercise for 45 minutes followed by meditation for 1/2 an hour in the morning.
2) Take high protein diet rich in vegetables and fruits and Vitamin A,C,D,E.and Zinc
3)Take anti oxidants like Almonds 5-6 everyday..
4) Avoid alcohol and smoking..
Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Thanks for the quick turnaround sir. The report says it is 40 million sperms per 1ml (which means 80 per 2 ml) and it was not written as 40 million sperms per 2 ml. Can you please correct me if I am not wrong. Thank You.
Brief Answer:
Yes I have erred in interpretation of report .
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up .
The report says total count to be 40 millions , Normally total sperm count represents sperm count in entire sample of semen presented for examination .
The normal range of sperm count deffer in report of various laboratories depending upon the method used for examination by a particular laboratory.
As regards high protein diet you can take cereals ,soya bean, etc
Green Vegetables and fresh fruits contain adequate amount of vitamins and Zinc.
Thanks and Regards.

Thanks for the correction sir. So it means my sperm count is normal as it is clearly mentioned 40 million per ML which means 80 million in 2 ml. So I am not in the lower side of the normal range. Am I correct? Please suggest.
Brief Answer:
You need to get the fact cleared from the laboratory .
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up .
The report submitted is confusing .I would suggest you to get the facts cleared from the lab.whether the total count mentioned in report is sperm count in entire sample of semen given for analysis or it is 40 millions per ml of semen in that case it should have been calculated and reported to be 80 millions .
Normally lab issue the reports of total count by counting the number of sperms in one ml of semen sample and then multiplying it by quantity of semen (Ml)submitted .
Thanks and Regards.
