Question: Hi I have a question about my 7 year old daughter. I took her to the doctors today, doctor believes she has a virus she’s been developing a fever at night and has been low energy and not eating. She is drinking. Her temp XXXXXXX to almost 103 about an hour and a half ago so I gave her Motrin. About 5 min after giving the motrin she threw up and she had blood coming from her right nostril and right eyes tear duct. Despite her throwing up her temperature is going down but I have never seen her nose and eye bleed from vomiting and I wasn’t sure if I should be taking her to the ER for that. I’d rather not expose her to more germs but I want to be safe rather than sorry.

Brief Answer:
Compress nose for 10 minutes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

Nosebleeds are common in children while suffering from viral infection. The throwing up caused an increased pressure and made the blood to go to tear duct.
You should make her lean forward and compress and punch nostrils in the nose bone level making her breathing through mouth. Keep it for ten minutes and then remove hand and see if it is still bleeding . If the bleeding persists repeat compression for another 15 minutes. Most probably it will stop but if not then you can go to ER.
You can give her low dosage of vitamin C to help protect the blood vessels.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
