Question: Hi I have a question regarding a new medication my doctor has me taking. I have been on zoloft for a couple of years at a very low dose - 37.5 mg - and my doctor is switching me to paxil because i am still anxious on the zoloft and sensitive to medications and a higher dose wont work for me. Anyway, he has me switched to 10 mg of paxil from the zoloft and told me that i can just swap it out- meaning dont wean off the zoloft just starting taking the paxil at 10 mg. i have started a week ago. Initially there were not any side effects but now I am feeling very tired with headaches and some nausea. I am wondering, should I have also still been taking some zoloft as a way to make the transition better. Is it ok now? Please help and advise me. I still have my zoloft if it makes sense i take some still. Thanks. I am feeling so exhausted moody and anxious. Could it be the medication switch up?

Brief Answer:
I think it could be low sodium

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I feel that after 10 days the additional medicine can be weaned off. It is usually 1-2 weeks during which new medications starts showing effects. Since 10 days already lapsed it is time to remove the older medications with assumption that Paxil started showing its effects.

Second thing which can be likely cause to your current problems, I feel low sodium need to be ruled out. Since low sodium is known side effects of SSRI group of medications (both Paxil and Zoloft) I feel this could be possible cause for side effects encountered by you. In my opinion this should be checked without delay.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
