Hi, I Have A Question Regarding The Use Of Lamisil

Question: Hi, I have a question regarding the use of Lamisil 250mg tablets 1 tablet once a day for 12 weeks. this is for the treatment of toenail fungus for all toes on one foot all very thickened and small section of other foot, which is also affected by yeast. I have so far taken 5 doses so have only just started. i feel a brain fog and exhaustion with mild tension in the head as well as mild soreness/ pain in lower abdomen (more of a mild discomfort but only started today, not sure if caused by what i ate). I read a lot about the side effects of this treatment as well as others experience which may not have been the best idea as i am now anxious about taking them and possibly looking at any discomfort as a sign of tablet side effect. Need general opinion on whether i should stick to them and see if it really the tablets causing the discomforts or my own paranoia. Are there any other successful treatments to severe toenail fungus should tablets not work or not be an option? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Liver function test should be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for asking ask a doctor service.

I have gone through your query. Lamisil (terbinafine) is more effective drug in treating toe nail fungal infection. Other option you have is the ointments of terbinafine for local application. But the oral drug is more effective. Side effect usually get is alterations in liver functions, skin changes and insomnia or irritability which can be due to caffeine containing drinks or excess tea taken along with terbinafine.
So better to do a blood test for liver function (LFT) to rule out any possible liver issues caused by this. Also avoid caffeine and excess tea. If there is raised liver enzymes in LFT then better to stop oral medication and go on with topical medicines like ointments.
Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
