Hi I Have Been Having These Small Bumps Which Looks

Question: Hi
I have been having these small bumps which looks like the hair follicles that has been infected or something like that (see attached photo), but the area has been there now for around 2-3 months and it's not really going away. Some periods it's very itchy and other periods I don't feel them too much, it comes and goes like they get worse and itchy and then dries a bit out.
What can this be looking like? It's located just between the testicles and the leg (thigh?) and they are on both sides. They started on the left side and some time later appeared exactly the same on the other side.
I went to my doctor who only looked very fast at it and said to try some steroid cream, but I wonder if it could be a fungus?
I experience burning pain in the area, but it feels more to be on the skin outside the scrotum, its more of a burning sensation and pressure from sitting, clothes or even sleeping and lying on my stomach pressing the area is uncomfortable.
It's been there for months now and seems to get better and worse every now and then.

Brief Answer:
Fungal infection
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed the image and gone through your query.
You seem to have a fungal infection. I'd suggest you use a topical antifungal e.g either Ketoconazole 2% cream or Miconazole nitrate 2% gel or Clotrimazole 1% cream, twice daily for a few days (you may need a prescription to obtain these).
In addition, I suggest you take an over the counter oral antihistamine e.g Cetirizine 10mg tablet once a day for symptomatic relief from itching.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if you need any more assistance.
Regards

Thanks for the answer. How big an area should I cover? I feel a burning pain and very mild itch in my scrotum, could this be fungus related? The burning sensation is my biggest complain. Can I wash the area with soap or what should I do? How do I know the difference between fungus and eczema?
Brief Answer:
Regarding fungal infection
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
use the cream on the entire affected area and 2 cm beyond that on to normal skin. I also suggest you to take an oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10mg tablet once a day for symptomatic relief from itching and burning. Groin folds are a common site of fungal infection due to trapping of moisture and warmth of body folds. The infection usually presents as redness, scaling and itching.
take care
