Hi, I Have Been On Crisanta Since July Of This

Question: Hi,

I have been on Crisanta since July of this year and still continue on it. But I had unprotected sex this month dated 12-14 Sept and had morning after pill (iPill) as well all subsequent three days even though Crisanta was also being taken. My Crisanta dosage for this cycle stopped on 18 Sept and I expect the withdrawal bleed today but nothing is happening yet. Is there any possibility that I might be pregnant? I really cannot get pregnant under any circumstance now.

Brief Answer:
Chances of pregnancy are nil. Some feedback.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there
Welcome to Ask A Doctor service.
I have understood your concern and I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.

First of all, do not panic.

As you were already taking oral contraceptive pills regularly, chances of getting pregnant are almost nil.
Secondly, as you have mentioned that you have also taken emergency contraceptive pills, that too within 72 hours of sexual activity, chances of getting pregnant are far remote.

Also, as per your calculations, you should have gotten your periods after finishing the contraceptive pills by now.
But the delay can be due to a high dose of progesterone hormone in the emergency contraceptive pills.

I would like to know about a few things in detail.
1. Did you miss more than one dose of oral contraceptive pills during the cycle?
2. How many days back, have you taken emergency contraceptive pills?

I will suggest you wait for the onset of periods.

Please feel free to communicate with me again.
I hope this answer helps you.

Thanks.

I have never missed any dose of Crisanta. Might be possible I missed one day in August, but I took the pill immediately as I remembered the next morning.
The last morning after pill was taken on 14 September. Does this affect your answer to my question?

Brief Answer:
Wait. Urine pregnancy test.beta HCG, USG

Detailed Answer:
Hi there
Thanks for appreciating the answer and reverting back to me.

Your feedback is valuable for me.

I will suggest you to wait for 7 to 10 days after finiythe oral contraceptive pills, for the onset of periods.
As you may be aware that withdrawal bleeding after emergency contraceptive pills is quite erratic.
It can be early or late and it can be scanty or heavy.
As you were already on birth control pills and additional emergency contraceptive pills contain high doses of progesterone hormone, this might cause delay in getting the periods.

If you cross your expected date of menses and still don't get your menstrual period then you can get morning's first sample of urine tested for pregnancy.
In case of any doubt blood beta HCG test and USG cab be done.

I hope this answer helps you.
Thanks.

So, do you think there is a possibility for pregnancy even after all the pills?

Brief Answer:
Chances of pregnancy are nil.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there
thanks for appreciating the answer and reverting back to me.

I have read your reply.

As discussed earlier, chances of getting pregnant are almost nil.
But if your periods get delayed and pregnancy is ruled out by doing urine pregnancy test; then you need not worry about pregnancy as a cause of delayed period and just wait for the onset of periods.
This helps to relieve the tension from your mind and you can simply wait and watch for onset of menses.

I hope this answer helps you.
Thanks.
