Question: Hi, I have experienced a sudden loss of taste. I noticed it a couple of weeks ago. It came at a time I was taking Mobic, which I was prescribed for an sore foot. I looked up that the medication was linked to loss of taste in rare cases. However, I took it for only three days and in the weeks since I have noticed that I still have a greatly dulled sense of taste. Also, in a bid to lose weight, on the past couple of months I have been on a mostly vegetarian diet. I still eat eggs, bone broth etc but only eat meat once a week at the most. I am male, 41, 130kg. Cheers j

Brief Answer:
I think you lack vit B12 and zinc.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear , welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
Mobic can give sudden loss of taste but I don't think this is the reason why you are suffering from it.
You took only for three days and it would have been resolved since a couple of weeks have passed.
Knowing that you are keeping a vegetarian diet for several months I suppose that the lack of vitamin B 12 and zinc may be responsible for loss of taste.
In this situation you either take vitamin B 12 and zinc supplements or increase food rich in vitamin B 12 and zinc intake.
If possible get tested for vit B 12 and zinc levels.
Vit B 12 rich goods are, animal liver, kidneys, sardines, tuna, salmon or fortified cereals and milk.
Zinc rich foods are, meat, legumes, nuts, seeds, dark chocolate ect.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
