Hi I Have Had A Not So Great Knee For
Question: Hi I have had a not so great knee for while but recently I have pain and it's like a lump sack in front of knee so it's swollen going to see an orthopedic on Tuesday but does this need to be drained? Can I postpone if I need anything to later on ? This is bad timing because I'm having hernia surgery on Wednesday
Brief Answer:
You can do aspiration and surgery too.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I see the photo you attached and the knee is really swollen and it seem to be a fluid filled sack on it possibly bursitis.
You may need to do an ultrasound of the knee and possibly drain it.
Draining may relieve your symptoms and doesn't have to be a contraindications for the hernia surgery you have on Wednesday.
The aspiration can be done under local anesthesia so you can feel safe to do the surgery on Wednesday.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
I can imagine that you are a bit nervous but I don't think you are going to sleep tomorrow because that can use local anesthesia to drain your knee.
The hernia surgery of course needs anesthesia. Being a bit nervous before surgery is quite normal .
