Hi, I Have Had An Extremely Itchy Bottom Since Last
Question: Hi, I have had an extremely itchy bottom since last March. I thought it was pinworms as it was extremely itchy at night. It did go away after a while of taking pin worm tablets but I now noticed I have spots. It itches during the day as well.
Brief Answer:
The symptoms are probably related to pinworms.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Your symptoms seem to be related pin worms.
They can cause itching around the anal area.
I recommend to do a stool test for further evaluation.
Meanwhile, I suggest using an antihistamine such as Cetirizine 10 mg daily to treat the itchiness.
I also suggest to use a mild cortisone cream for local application such as Calamine lotion.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards!

Thank you for your reply. I just wanted to check with you that you do not think it could be hemorrhoids? I felt a lump but the pictures attached show more spots/warts but I also felt something like I could push back up. I did read about anus warts but I am not sexually active to have contracted them. I am now on my third round of pinworm medicine so that is why am now beginning to think that is not the problem. I took 2 rounds of Vermox, oregano oil and I am now taking a herbal supplement called Scram. The itch is still there especially when sweating or getting hot. At night it can get bad and other nights, I feel nothing. There is also a discharge at times. Or could a food allergy cause the skin to be irritated?

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,
The spots in the photos does not seem to be related to hemorrhoids. But, based on your explanation, you may have hemorrhoids.
I recommend to use a anti hemorrhoid cream for local application such as Preparation H.
It can be taken without prescription.
The spots can also be triggered by sweat which can cause more rash and itching.
So, I recommend to maintain the area dry and keep a good hygiene.
I also suggest to use cotton underwear.
Hope it helps dear.
Take care,
Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi
