Hii. Welcome to the Ask A Doctor service.

It seems that you are having allergic bronchitis and allergic pharyngitis. That's why you are having cough during season change on exposure of cold. There is inflammation of the throat and of the lungs due to allergen in winter. So your doctor has prescribed you inhaler to reduce the inflammation and for proper ventilation of airway. It can also be a subclinical bronchial asthma which get prominent in winter. So you need to do a pulmonary function test: spirometry during episodes of cough. Get a skin allergen testing to find out the allergen to which yoh are allergic.

Do betadine gargle during winter. Start taking an antiallergic tablet levocetrizine montelukast combination to reduce allergy and to improve breathing. Give a throat swab for culture and for TB (AFB smear and XPERT TB) testing to find if there is any bacterial infection or not. No need for antibiotic. You can take budesonide or duolin inhaler to reduce allergic inflammation. It's is very helpful to reduce cough. Take steam inhalation.

Review with reports and if can be decided if inhaler is needed for long term or can be used shortly.
