Hi, I Have Had What Appears To Be Genital Warts

Question: Hi, I have had what appears to be genital warts since 1989 when I was first involved in a sexual encounter. The warts cleared then but left some pimple like swellings all round my penis. I have ignored them for so long but now am feeling uncomfortable with them especially during sex. Is there a way I can eliminate these pimples even through some cream or operation. Secondly, is it likely to turn cancerous in future?

The discomfort I have is more of esteem issues and not any pain or physical discomfort.
From pictures I have seen online ,I believe my condition is genital warts.

I want to have a penis that has no pimple like small protrusions all round the corona areas of the penis just above the penis neck.

I would prefer a gel if available that can clear the genital pimples as soon as possible.

Is it possible to prescribe a medication cream without going through another consultation process?
Secondly, does the freezing off you are referring to include making them disappear to leave the penis free of the pimples.?
Finally does it mean then that I may be spreading this virus to my sexual partners all these years while assuming it’s nothing serious?

Brief Answer:
HPV infection could be spread to the sexual partner.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in"Ask a Doctor".
I am sorry for my late response.

Usually in this situation we prescribe condylin solution to use as a local treatment but freezing off the pimples is a better procedure and may dissapear totally the pimples.
Furthermore, you should know that HPV infection could be spread to the sexual partner during a sexual intercourse if you have had these penis pimples before.

Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.

Usually we use liquid nitrogen to freeze the pimples. This treatment is called cryotherapy or cryosurgery.

Thank so much for the response. Now I know the options to take. Perhaps it would be good to know how long such a freezing procedure takes and if it happens under anesthesia or just a normal routine procedure that can happen in less than an hour.
That would be my final question on this.

Thanks so much for the advice. Quite valuable

Brief Answer:
There is no need for anesthesia.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome back,
I am sorry for my late response.

You should know that there is no need for anesthesia when the warts are frozen with liquid nitrogen because you may have a mild to moderate burning.

The time of application varies by the doctor who applies the liquid nitrogen and the size of warts.
The size and thickness of warts determine the number and length of freeze cycles.

Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
