Question: Hi, I have neck pain along with shoulder pins and needle into arm on right side that comes and goes. There is some weakness there. I have been under tremendous psychological stress in past three years When this first started, it really ramped you in the past 3 months. My muscles in neck and trapezius muscles are extremely tight on this side. Is it possible that the trapezius muscle or stress along with others is the cause and not a cervical radicupathy? MRI of thoracic spine did not show any abnormal findings in the cervical area that stood out.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there

Thanks for the query

If you have radiating pain from the back of the neck that radiates to the upper limb then it most likely us due to nerve compression. This nerve compression can happen at many points from the origin of the nerves at the cervical spine to even upto the wrist.

I would recommend an MRI cervical spine which will show common nerve root compression at C5-C6 which may not be visualised in an MRI thoracic spine.

Trapezius pathology less likely can explain your symptoms.

I hope I have answered your quer.
