Hi, I Have Noticed Some Pale Areas Below My Tonsils

Question: Hi, I have noticed some pale areas below my tonsils when I clench my throat - one side is slightly more visible. See attached photo. when my throat isnt clenched you cannot see the areas in question. I asked my GP about it and although 1 tonsil is slightly larger and always has been he said it does NOT look like something to worry about. I am just asking for a second opinion it may well be that the areas in question have always been there and ive just noticed now. I am a fit and healthy 35 year old male. i run marathons regularily. I do not smoke. i do not drink more than the recommended amount and have no other symptons - no sore throat or neck and no lumps in neck etc i was just looking for peace of mind and perhaps an explanation to what they are. thank you

additional photos. one is my throat normally unclenched
Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry about.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I see the photos you attached.
The white part near the tonsils you are referring is posterior pillar muscle. It is made white when it is overstretched while opening wide the mouth. That is normal and you don't have to worry about it.
One tonsil is a bit larger than the other and it naturally may have some extra tonsillar tissue. Or possible inflammation may have caused it to be larger. Since you are having no symptoms of sore throat of redness this is nothing to worry about.
Hope I have answered the question.
