Hi, I Have Over The Past Month Been Having Discharge

default
Posted on Sat, 29 Aug 2020
Question: Hi, I have over the past month been having discharge from my urethra, it's irritated and sometimes uncomfortable to urinate and has a strange, specific smell as well. I also feel discomfort in my bladder area. I've been tested (urine and blood tests) multiple times for UTI's and STD's all come back negative but I still experience symptoms. I was put in doxycycline, nothing changed. The doctor at the urgent care did say he saw a little bit of blood in my urine. What could this be? It's starting to worry me a lot. I also have a black spot under my left pinky toenail. The toenail is brittle and frail, as well as a black spot under my left second toe, but I cannot tell if it's dirt/lint or not. Any help for these issues would be great.

Brief Answer:
urethritis or cystitis most likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* As per the symptoms narrated by you, possible issue of urethritis or
cystitis is likely condition.

* There are certain cases, where low grade infections, sterile pyruia or other
conditions do not show up on multiple lab reports.

* Rather than worrying, I would recommend you basic guidelines for better
recovery.

- drink plenty of liquids
- cranberry XXXXXXX or pills daily
- genital hygiene care
- avoid sexual intercourse if active
- control of blood sugar
- avoid activities with much perspiration such as prolong exercises, strain
activities, sun exposure
- avoid anxiety and stress

* So far as brittle toenail is concerned, likely vitamin deficiency.

* For further course of action, in my clinic, I do recommend an ultrasound of
the abdomen and pelvis, which shows up bladder wall thickness, status of
ureter, kidneys with or without any tiny gravels in the urinary system.

If any such report is available with you, kindly share with me during follow up discussion.
Awaiting for your response.

Regards.
Take care.
