Hi, I Have Recently Been Looking More Into Pleurisy Online.

Question: Hi, I have recently been looking more into pleurisy online. I have had a problem is chest pain while breathing for about 4 years. It comes and goes but is always a sharp pain and can almost always be stopped by a few sharp deep breathes. I have seen my regular doctor about it before but was told that I didn’t have this condition. I am still concerned about it because I have read that it can be caused by tumors and diseases and I don’t want to go back to my regular doctor because I’m afraid that I won’t be taken seriously. If you could get back to me it would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome in the panel of Ask a doctor
I can understand your concern
But please give me some more information about you such as your age smoking status if you have any other diseases or do you take any medication, where do you work ,is there air pollution around and so on.
However first regarding your concern if you were my patient I would recommend you to do a chest X ray and an ECG. If negative than a chest CT is needed to evaluate better the lunngs and the pleural spaces.
Hope to have been helpful
