Hi. I Have The Nexplanon And My Last Period Was

Question: Hi. I have the nexplanon and my last period was February 24th. Yesterday I started bleeding really light and a light brown color. I have lower back pains and cramps. Three weeks ago tomorrow, I had sex with my boyfriend and we did it without a condom but he didn’t finish on the inside. I took a pregnancy test on Monday which is the two week mark. It said negative, was this enough time for accuracy? And is all these symptoms normal nexplanon?

Hi,
Welcome to Ask a Doctor. I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
Irregular bleeding is a very common side effect of Nexplanon. You are experiencing that now.
Nexplanon is a very effective contraceptive method. Possibility of pregnancy is rare. Two weeks period is reasonable interval to do a pregnancy test.
You need not worry. These symptoms should subside in 2-3 days time.
If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.

So the negative pregnancy test result from the two week mark is accurate?

Is the light brown bleeding normal plus the cramping and the back aches? I am going to take another pregnancy test tomorrow because it will mark the 3 week point. From your perspective, when is the most accurate time to take a pregnancy test to get 99 accurate answer if you are on birth control and periods are irregular?

Hi,
Welcome back.
Two weeks period from the last sexual intercourse is a very accurate time to take the pregnancy test.
If you are still worried, get a blood pregnancy test done tomorrow. It is definitely much more accurate than urine pregnancy test. That will halt all your worries. I did not suggest this before as I thought there was no need for it. Because you are still worrying, i suggested it now.
Your symptoms are the side effects of Nexplanon.
If you have further concerns, do write to me.

Ok, so today it was been 21 days since I had sex with my boyfriend and 20 days since ovulation. I took another pregnancy test because I just am lightly spotting brown with some clumps. I’m having bad back cramps and stomach cramps. The test did say negative. Is this enough time for accurate results?

Hi,
Welcome back.
It is definitely enough time for accurate results.
As I said earlier, two weeks itself is enough time for accurate results.
Did you do the blood pregnancy test?.
Best wishes.
