Question: Hi!! I just realized that I missed a pill. I am on my 3rd week of pills. I’m supposed to get my period in 6 days. I missed yesterday and was an hour late today. The last time I had sex was last was last Friday morning. The 13th. Am I covered from becoming pregnant? Would an egg release in that time? Should I worry?

Just continue to take the rest of pills as usual.

Do I need to use back up birth control? Is it possible to ovulate because I misssed the pill? Am I covered still with the 7 inactive pills I will be taking in 3 days? Do I just start my next pack of pills at the regular time with no worries?

I also was 11 hours late taking the pill on the 9th? Is this okay? I figured it was because it wasn’t the first week, but it was right in my ovulation time so now I’m worried about that too. Am I okay regarding that?

Brief Answer:
You should have taken it as soon as you remembered.

Detailed Answer:
Ok, if you took it as soon as you remembered even though it was late you are still protected.
You are okay regarding that.

Thank you for your help! Why does it say on some sites like planned Parenthood that I should use extra protection for the next 7 days if I want to avoid pregnancy? Is it possible to ovulate this late in my cycle since I missed the pill? Should I be using back up protection or will we be okay? Also, it says I should start my next pill pack right away and skip the plecebo pills. I don’t really want to do this because I’ve had to do that before for my fibroids and it really messed with me. If I don’t do this am I at risk for pregnancy for the next two weeks since I won’t have 7 consecutive pills in me?

Brief Answer:
You can use condoms if you want.

Detailed Answer:
Some sites say to use protection for the rest of days just to be sure and if you want you can use it.
I think you don't have risk of pregnancy so it is not needed because ovulation can't happen at this time. Just continue pills as usual. Continue the next pack after you finish this pack.
