Hi I Recently Had A Deep Laceration To My Middle
Question: Hi I recently had a deep laceration to my middle and ring finger in my dominant right hand almost two months , the injury happened after it was cut on glass on and around both knuckles. The middle finger was the deepest and I was reffered to a hand surgeon but I didn't get an appointment till a week after the injury and it had pretty Much healed on the outside. She said it was doing well due to the fact that i can push up and down so there is apparently no tendon damage .However I still can't bend them correctly I can make a fist but can't bend them so my finger tips touch top of palm and I get regular pain at the joins and down the finger. Is this considered normal? Should I go back to the hospital ? Or should I just have physio? Or will it heal soon
Brief Answer:
It should have been healed
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
You have about 2 months since accident and it would have healed completely now with consequences.
I think this is not normal and you need a physical examination to general sureon.
I don't think physical therapy is needed.
Hope I have answered the question.

do you think I will possible have to have surgery or do you think its been to long and they won't operate ?
Brief Answer:
Surgery is needed.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again. I think the only way to be treated may be surgery. There is no reason not to operate. Maybe a bad cicatrix is formed and needs to be cut.
Best regards.

i have attached three photos before and after and when the dressing first came off. I didn't have stitches can that still cause cicatrix?,is a cicatrix bad ? will it be as large of a scar as a flexor tendon repair scar or will it just be the same size as the wound originally? if surgery is required what are the benefits and negative of having the surgery? if that I'd the cause can this cause the hand to shake also ? thanks for your help.
Brief Answer:
Surgery is beneficial.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again, there are no attached photos. You can try again to attract them.
It can be caused even though you didn't have stitches.
When I stay bad cicatrix, I mean short or thick and improper that shrinks the skin.
It can be larger than wound.
It was better if you had surgery before.
Now you will have to remove it and stich the wound again. There is a risk of still being a large cicatrix.
I don't think this can cause the hand to shake.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Best regards.
