Question: Hi, I recently started a contraceptive pill. I started on the first day of my period and could only take it for around 7 days as I was getting a lot of pain and prolonged bleeding. I have stopped thepill and I am still bleeding and in pain. What could this be?

Brief Answer:
Hormone / intrauterine condition...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Contraceptive pills contain hormones that should have stopped bleeding by now. Stopping pills after 7 days would prolong bleeding further. But since it's hurting you, I will recommend visiting a gynecologist. An ultrasound scan is in order. It will help us identify if there are any intrauterine causes of painful bleeding - causes such as fibroids, DUB need to be ruled out.

Until then you can take over the counter pain medications. Antispasmodic drugs like dicyclomine or buscopan will also benefit you. Home remedies that include hot water gags can be tried.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.
