Hi I Recently Went To The Doctor With A Headache

Question: Hi I recently went to the doctor with a headache in the left side, they examined me and told me that I had high blood pressure. I went to the doctor again and took my blood pressure again and it was still high (although I only have one kidney since birth). He wanted me to do a urine test for infection, and called me to say that he found blood in the urine and sent it for further testing of infection. I'm currently taking fiucloxacillin for the fifth time this year for infection in my toe and hand; the last time I took fiucloxacillin, there was one time my urine was a brown colour. I read on the packet that you shouldn't take them if you have kidney problems, and since i only have one kidney. I told the doctor this but he didn't seem concerned, and wanted me to keep taking them...cou|d this be a possible cause for blood in urine? I want to know if I should keep taking these, or if it is damaging my kidney. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Yes can change in antibiotics is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thank you for the query. I understand your concern.
Flucloxacillin with normal doses can cause brown colour to urine.. but it need not be due to blood in urine.. while it is used in a single large dose for preventive purposes... it was seen to cause kidney problems. ..
Your urine has exhibited blood .. so it is better to stop the drug &start with other kidney friendly antibiotic( like azithromycin probided you don't have any liver problem )for your infection after consultation of treating doctor.
Nothing can be commented about kidney damage till the urine report arrives.
I hope that answers your query.
Any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.
