Hi, I Was Just Told By A Partner That He
Question: Hi, I was just told by a partner that he had recently had a large outbreak of sores in his mouth 2 weeks ago and his doctor had recommended getting tested for herpes. I’ve kissed him since then (prior to knowing that information) and wanted to ask about risk of infection. I have had cold sores as a child but never any blister outbreaks, does that mean I likely have some form of latent herpes? If so, could I have caused him to have that sort of outbreak? Or because he had such a large outbreak and if I do already have Type 1 from having cold sores as a child could coming in contact with him change my presentation of the virus to having blister outbreaks as well when I never have before?
Brief Answer:
Your symptoms do not look like herpes.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Your symptoms do not fit into the diagnosis of herpes and you are unlikely to be the cause for his disease.
Moreover, herpes is transmitted through direct contact with an active lesion or body fluid of an infected person.
However, you can go for the serological test to check whether you have a latent infection or not.
Hope I have answered your query.
Feel free to ask further.
Thanks

Hi, thanks for your response.
So if he recently contracted herpes and had an outbreak 2 weeks ago, does exchanging split while making out put me at risk for contracting herpes as well. You said exchanging body fluid with an infected person.
Also, I thought having cold sores as a child that any form of cold sore was HSV type 1?

Brief Answer:
Given.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Herpes labialis or cold sore is a kind of HSV type-1 infection but it is transmitted only if you have active infection.
As you said it can cause latent infection and virus become dormant in the nerves, but become contagious only if you develop a reactivation and active disease.
We can wait for the results to confirm whether it is herpes or something else.
Hope I have answered your query.
Thanks
