Hi. I Was Recently Diagnosed With PID. I Had Had
Question: Hi. I was recently diagnosed with PID. I had had an IUD and was having a lot of cramping and pain...it happened twice in two years. So, I went to the gyno...this was late November, and she said I had a bacterial infection,my IUDS strings folded, and she recommended I remove it while taking antibiotics. A few days before I had it removed I got a new pain in my left side and back. She said it was fine, removed the IUD (in a difficult procedure) and sent me on my way. The pain got significantly worse and I knew it felt different, so I went to another doctor. That's when they diagnosed me with PID. They said my fallopian tube was inflamed and I may have had an abcess because they could see the fluid. I went on doxycycline and had shots and was feeling better. I finished the treatment about two days ago and now the pain is back again. I also had strange gooey discharge a few days ago and thought it was just ovulation. Now that the pain is back and I took antibiotic I am very concerned about what's wrong and what my options are. I thought surely the antibiotics would cure it, especially because I was feeling better and the IUD is gone. I'm concerned that's not working or maybe there's something else they are not seeing. I haven't had sex since this all started and I'm married and have only been with one partner for 7 years. They also of course tested for STDs but believe it was all caused from the IUD. Anyway, to top it off, I live in Mexico and got treated here and in Ecuador as that's where my husband's family is from and since I didn't feel like I was being helped here when we went to Ecuador for the holidays I had time to get treatment from a trusted doctor. Now I am back in Mexico and in pain and not sure what to do. Thank you.

Hi,
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
I have read your notes.
Do you have urinary complaints? For how many days did you take antibiotics ?
First get an ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis done. Get the urine tests done.
From there wa can take the treatment further. We first need to rule out the possibility of kidney stone and urinary infection.
You probably may not have taken complete treatment for PID and that may be lurking. With the above investigations, get examined by Gynecologist.
If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.

I had an ultrasound, that's how they knew it was PID. I actually had two, one before they removed the IUd and one after when I had that pain on my left side. I took doxycycline for two weeks. No, I don't have any urine pain. I did for one day after I completed the doxycycline but it went away fast. they checked my other organs and didn't see anything. Do I need a cat scan for that?
Brief Answer:
You do not need CT scan.
