Brief Answer:
It should take a couple of weeks to replenish the stores of carnitine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

I have read your query.

If the carnitine deficiency is secondary to chronic use of valproic acid use, supplements of carnitine should be used.

The dose is 15mg/kg of body weight and should reverse the symptoms of carnitine deficiency within a week.

Stores should be replenished for a little longer, a few weeks.

Smaller maintenance doses should be used if the valproic acid will be continued.

There should be no brain damage.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Feel free to ask if you have further questions.
