Question : Hi. I’m 55 and going through menopause. For over a week now I started having some arrhythmia. It’s very uncomfortable especially at night when I try to sleep I feel it the most. Sometimes it feels like a drop of the heart. A few days ago I went to the hospital because I thought I was having heart problems. The kectricardiogram came out normal. My blood pressure and oxygen was normal, my potassium and magnesium was normal and I was released. I feel totally weird, stressed out, very worried about it and I can’t skeep at all because at night is the worst time for these symptoms. People say it’s the menopause but I keep wortiedcits my heart. On the top of that I’m also having acid reflux and a lot of gas with everything I eat. Please what’s going with me? Is it my heart? Am I really sick. Next week I’m seeing a cardiologist too. Thank you

Brief Answer:
It seems related to bloating

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I would worry more about your digestion and lungs. Similar symptoms can be caused by lung congestion and bloating. Bloating can cause acid reflux and reflux can cause lung problems. First test I will suggest is a chest Xray. It does not seem to be your heart but further tests are needed to rule it out completely like a holter monitor and cardiac enzymes.

Meanwhile I will suggest that you keep the complex foods to the minimum. Keep taking your acidity medicines, drink some milk or take calcium supplement, drink cleaner water to avoid stomach infection. Take low salt, low fat diet. Do some regular exercise within your limits. Breathing exercise (like pranayam in yoga) helps with the breathing and stress. Stay away from pet dander and dust.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
