Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using Ask a Doctor. There may be many causes for the pain you describe, including gynecological, GI, urinary, and musculoskeletal. First I would like to ask a few more questions: Is this on your left or right side? Does anything seem to make the pain worse or better? Are you having any urinary symptoms that are out of the ordinary? Are you having normal bowel movements? Are your periods normal? When was your last menstrual period? Is there any possibility you could be pregnant? Any vaginal discharge? Are you currently sexually active?
Hopefully that will help me to narrow down what the cause could be, I look forward to your response.

Thanks

More in front near groin
Brief Answer:
Suspect hip arthritis
Detailed Answer:
While it would be hard to say for sure without a physical exam and further testing, at this point I would be most suspicious for hip arthritis. Hip arthritis usually has pain in front of the hip, in the groin area, and often starts with pain when standing. The next steps to confirm this would be a hip x-ray, and the treatment is usually initially with pain control with medications like Tylenol and Ibuprofen, sometimes with physical therapy.
Like I said, it could still be many other things, including just a muscle strain, intestinal spasms, or possibly an ovarian cyst. A physical exam should help guide whether it seems to be coming from the hip joint or not, and then further imaging can help confirm the final diagnosis.
I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any questions about any of that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.

I have a physical in two weeks is it ok to wait to be evaluated also can pain from hip arthritis come and go lasting only seconds when happening should I be overly concerned about pain
Brief Answer:
2 weeks would be fine
Detailed Answer:
Yes, waiting two weeks should be fine. Yes, pain from hip arthritis would normally come and go, and can last only a few seconds. Only if the pain starts to become severe and constant, or you have other symptoms like fever, nausea or vomiting, would I be concerned you have something more serious going on, and would need to be seen more urgently. But otherwise it doesn't urgent and the physical in two weeks will be a good time to evaluate the pain further. In the meantime, you can try to take Tylenol or, if you don't have any history of stomach issues or stomach ulcers, you can take Ibuprofen or Naproxen over the counter. If it is hip arthritis, it is nothing that needs to be treated urgently.
Please let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be glad to help any way I can.
