Hi,
Thank you for the query. I can understand your concern. According to your statement, you have been suffering from ROP or retinopathy of prematurity.
Retinopathy of prematurity is an eye disease that can happen in premature babies. It causes abnormal blood vessels to grow in the retina and can lead to blindness. As the blood vessels may tend to leak or bleed, leading to scarring of the retina. When the scars shrink, they pull on the retina, detaching it from the back of the eye and its detachment will cause blindness. It is the late complication of ROP in adults.
The most effective proven treatments for ROP are laser therapy or cryotherapy. Laser therapy burns away the periphery of the retina, that has no normal blood vessels.
Consult with an eye specialist for further treatment approach and examine your retina by the eye specialist.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,
Thank you for joining again. Please look into my previous answered again. I have told that ROP is retinopathy of prematurity that usually occurs in premature babies. Most of the cases become normal or don't need treatment. Only few cases may continue to adulthood and develop complications like forming of abnormal blood vessels, retinal detachment or blindness.
I have tried to explain the mechanism from developing of abnormal blood vessels to blindness in case ROP that continues up to adulthood.
Without retinal examination, it is difficult to predict what the present condition of your retina and what may happen next. After assessing your retinal condition, your eye specialist will decide the next treatment plan. It may be conservative, laser therapy or cryotherapy.
ROP may develop in premature babies as I have mentioned earlier, they need oxygen inhalation after birth as they have respiratory problems due to prematurity and underdeveloped lungs.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,
Thank you again for joining. The purpose of both laser surgery and cryotherapy is to create scar tissue on the peripheral retina. The scarred peripheral retina will no longer stimulate the growth of abnormal vessels. As a result, normal retina vessels will extend into the area where they were absent before the treatment and prevent further retinal damage.
Again, antivascular endothelial growth factor (Anti VEGF) drugs may be applied to treat ROF. Anti VEGF drugs work by blocking the overgrowth of blood vessels in the retina that are prone to develop retinal detachment and ultimately blindness.
Again, combination of Anti VEGF and laser therapy or cryotherapy may give better outcome than a single treatment plan. But, everything depends on your present condition of retina. By retinal examination, it is very important to determine that your retinal peripheral area is affected or central area is affected or both central and peripheral area are affected. After assessing, your eye specialist will determine what type of treatment will be better for you. So, consult with an eye specialist promptly for further treatment approach.

Hi,
Thank you for joining again. ROP is a progressive disease. So, as the day passes, ROP becomes more complicated without treatment.
A patient with ROP should be treated and followed up by an eye specialist regularly to prevent the further damage of the retina.
By assessing the stages of retinal damage due to ROP, an eye specialist will fix his treatment protocol for protecting further retinal damage.
If you think that your current eye specialist's treatment isn't satisfactory and effective for you, then you can change your eye specialist or you can ask the doctor about your retinal status and doctor's treatment approach for the present damage and prevent the future damage. Because, ROP will become worsen as passing of the time without proper and effective treatment plan.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
