Hi, Im Really Concerned About My Daughter. She Is 19mo
Question: Hi, Im really concerned about my daughter. She is 19mo and has always had issues with her bowel movements. She gets very constipated/ bloated and is in quite a lot of pain when trying to poo. she will often sit on the floor making grunting noises and crying trying to pass it. when she does its extremely hard or will only pass very tiny bits at a time. No amount of fiber seems to be making a difference. Im just at a loss of what to do. so far we%E2%80%99ve tried: ALOT of fruit during the day, fibre gummie lollys, limiting milk and dairy, even attempted gluten free products for just over a week. Weve been to GPs about it and they just prescribe laxitives which after about 4days do work but as soon as we stop the laxitives shes back to straining within a day or two. The packet also says not to use for more than 10 days so i know its only a temporary fix. Please help, any suggestions at all would greatly appreciated!!

Hi...Thank you for consulting in here. I think your kid is having habitual constipation. I have certain questions and suggestions for you.
Questions:
1. Did your kid pass motion or meconium on day one of life?
2. Since how long is the kid constipated?
3. Does the kid have any bleeding along with hard stools?
4. How much milk does the kid consume per day?
5. Does the kid eat fruits and vegetables (fibre diet) appropriately?

Thank you for your quick response.
1. No she didn’t pass stool in the first day, we monitored it at home and I believe it took a few days from memory? 2. She has always had issues with constipation and smelly gas, this isn’t new 3. No there isn’t bleeding 4. Has Aprox 200ml of milk per day but we mix this with water and recently have switched to zymil in case it was a lactose issue but hasn’t improved. 4. She loves fruit and would eat at least 3-4 pieces minimum a day. She also has raisins and cranberries on her morning porridge as well as psyllium husks this hasn’t improved anything either.

Sorry i mixed that up. I’ve checked through her hospital records and she did pass stool on the first day, it was her urine that was a bit later. Would you still recommend screening for Hirschsprung's disease? I will add papaya to the fruits she’s eating at the moment, we are lucky she does like most fruit. 2L of water might be difficult but I’ll try as much as possible
