Question: Hi,
My mom underwent BMD test today. Report summary is attached. I can also share the detailed report if required.
Report shows that there is a problem in bone.
My mom usually has knee joint pain. She underwent ayurvedic treatment an year ago for few months. Now, she is undergoing homeopathy treatment. There is some improvement in pain but not much. We would like to know what should be our next step?
Would medicines solve the problem?

Brief Answer:
Can improve with allopathic medicines.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have seen the attached report. The low T-score suggests osteopenia- thinning of bones. This is an age related change.
There are many causes for pain in knee joint at this age group. Most common cause is Osteo-arthritis of knee joint. But it is advisable to rule out other causes also by taking a Xray of her knee joint. Xray will help us to find out whether her bones are normal or not. If there is no history of trauma or injury to the knee, no history of fever, no swelling in the foot, no other joints involvement then it should be mostly due to age-related wear and tear ie. osteoarthritis. I would suggest you to get your mom clinically examined by an orthopedician and follow his advise.

For osteoarthritis, weight reduction is the main treatment along with medicines to decrease pain like NSAID's - paracetamol, aceclofenac etc., Life style modifications like avoiding sitting cross legged, squatting, using XXXXXXX type toilets will decrease the rate of progression of osteoarthritis. Exercises like quadriceps strengthening, swimming, straight leg raising will help in improving the muscle strength around the knee and will help in decreasing pain.

I hope this answers your query.
