Question: Hi,
My mother, age 60 years is diagnosed with Lung Cancer. Can you please look at her reports and suggest best treatment plan going forward? If Chemo/Radiation is the only option then will it be helpful? What is the life in hand without any Radiation/Chemo? And what is the extension after doing the Radiation/Chemo?
Will targeted Chemo help in this case?
Please advice.

Brief Answer:
Chemoradiation is the only option.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have gone through your reports thoroughly.
As you know this is an advanced lung cancer. Surgery is not possible as it is already spread to other adjacent regions and a possible metastasis( distant spread) to bone also.
As your doctor said chemo-radiation is the only option left. You have to realise that the chemo and radiation will not cure the disease and they only helps to decrease the pain and prolong the life. We can not accurately comment on the life expectancy in patients but five year survival rate in advanced lung cancer is less than 4 percent. Radiation definitely help in reducing the pain and symptoms associated with the diseaese.
Targeted drug treatments focus on specific abnormalities present within cancer cells. You have to do a genetic testing before starting targeted chemo. Cost might be a problem in targeted chemo.
Wishing all the best.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
It has to be decided by the risk-benefit ratio

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the follow-up.

Obviously, chemoradiation has got side effects which can be very serious sometimes.

Whether to proceed with chemo or not to give chemo is decided by your physician and relatives after checking the risk and benefits.

If the general health condition is not good, chemo will not be a good option as it may further deteriorate the patient.

As you may be knowing chemo can cause hair fall and severe nausea vomiting. In some patient, it can cause skin changes and fatigue.

You can anytime stop the chemo in case she can’t tolerate or worsening of general health.
But it's strongly suggested to let your oncologist supervise this who can also help you to make a decision.

Wishing all the best.
Thanks
