Hi, My Wife Often Has Headaches For A Few Days

Question: Hi,

My wife often has headaches for a few days during her menstrual period. These usually start after the second or third day.
Is there anything that can be done to reduce the cause of the headaches? Should iron supplements be taken as she normally has slightly elevated blood pressure readings? She has taken a pill of Ferro-grad C with 100mg elemental Iron.
Is it correct that the headaches are mainly caused by blood loss?

Thankyou,
Regards.

Brief Answer:
It could be due to hormonal imbalance

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting us about your health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
Your headache could be due to hormonal imbalance.
It could be due to blood loss also, due to low blood pressure.
Iron supplements are important in your case, you can continue with the same.
But high blood pressure may also cause headache.
Reduce your salt intake, drink a lot of warm water and exercise regularly.
If not controlled medicine also required.
Blood pressure monitoring is important
Hope found useful, feel free to ask more information.
Good luck

Thanks Dr. XXXXXXX

The iron supplements will be continued. The blood pressure readings are about 140/100 which appears to be slightly high.

Is it safe to continue taking iron supplements 500 mg per day?

Is there anything that can be done regarding hormonal imbalance but only at these times?

Thankyou,
Regards.

Continue her iron supplement.
