Question: Hi

Warm greetings

I am a diabetic, taking ayurvedic medicines. Meeting doctor monthly once. Every week I check my sugar level via glucose meter at home.

Usually I check only fasting sugar. It is 142 MG. It was 220 mg while fasting two months back when I went for check up. There after due to diet, ayurvedic medicine, walking it gradually dropped to 142 and from past 2 weeks.

Today I just checked after food sugar level which is 240 after 1 hour from bfast. Usually I heard it would be only 40 to 50 difference. My questions are below.

1. Is it normal the difference can be 100, before and after food.

2. Then my fasting sugar readings are wrong

3. Shall I go for additional dosage.

Pls advise in detail

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Proper Clinical Evaluation by the Diabetologist recommended...

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service...
I've gone through your query in details...

Let me come to your queries directly:

1. No, the readings are quite high.

2. Whether it's right or wrong needs to be checked further. Glucometer readings can be often erroneous, so you need to give a blood sample in a well-reputed lab (FBS, PPBS - 2hour post-prandial, and HbA1c as well as Urine Routine microscopy). This way the basic check-up of your Diabetes present status, as well as blood sugar control, would be investigated.

3. Allopathic medical practitioners can not say about Ayurvedic medications. So, for that, you need to consult your Ayurvedic doctor.

However, in your scenario, it's strongly recommended that you consult a Diabetologist for a thorough clinical check-up without any further delay. Further treatment management will be decided based on the findings.

Take Care
Kind Regards
