Question: Hi, a few weeks ago I had a colonoscopy and an upper endoscopy. Since then, I have been feeling lower left side, pelvic pain, and upper left side abdominal pain. Also lots of anxiety and nausea. I asked my doctor and she said the colonoscopy prep flushed out the good bacteria and I need to take probiotics. What do you think? Anything serious? I am also having a lot of lower back pain. I have talked to my doctor over the phone but not seen her in person.

I have only recently starting to take the probiotic and digestive enzymes. I started them on October 12 (Friday).

I also wanted to note that I weigh 259 pounds, am about 6 ft 1 in, eat somewhat healthy. if you have any other questions, please let me know.

Brief Answer:
Depleted gut flora very likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I have seen the attached report.
Your Total and differencial leucocyte count is normal which means that their is no acute or chronic infection in body as off now.
Very likely depleted gut flora is the cause as told by your primary.
Start taking a quality probiotic like-
Econorm twice daily
VSL#3 twice daily.
Along with it keep taking digestive supplements.
However if the pain remains there even after 7 days of therapy an ultrasound has to be done to see if there is inflammation in intestines.Inflammation caused by colonies of bad bacteria and fungi may cause spasm and severe pain.
Hope i was helpful,
Thank you and nothing serious as of now!

What about the high red blood count and high HEMATOCRIT and low MCV and low MCH. I have been told my spleen is an inch bigger than normal and my lymph nodes are enlarged. Could this mean anything?

Brief Answer:
Oncology consultation should be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
The first sign of lymphoma is often a swollen lymph node that appears without a known cause. The disease can spread to nearby lymph nodes. Later it may spread to the spleen.
Earlier in your query you have not mentioned that your lymph nodes are also enlarged.
As of now few tests like peripheral smear of blood should be done to see the exact blood picture and cause of low MCV MCH.
High hemocrit and RBC could be due to mild dehydration also or in smokers it could be there.
However for lymph node enlargement i would suggest you to consult an oncologist on this forum.
Thanks!
