Brief Answer:
No need to worry
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service.
Let me assure that there is nothing to worry about the weight gain of your child and it seems to be on track. The birth weight of a child is expected to double by 5 months of age (and not 3 months of age) and triple by 10-12 months of age. These are estimated figures and not compulsory ones.
What is more important is whether the child is exclusively breast fed. If that is the case, you have no reason to worry anyway.
Feel free to write back.
Regards

please tell me the reason why she is suffering from all these things and does my diet effect this.. actually iam eating every thing very cautiously... and iam avoiding most of the foods because of her...
Please subcript the medicine for her...
can i give her collicaid for this condition..
And also on the collicaid instructions are given as it should be given 15 mins before feeding... is it really necessary because during pain she will demand feeding..

Brief Answer:
Could be due to colics
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Let me first ask whether the baby is exclusively breast fed or whether formula feeds are being given. Babies often get colics especially when on formula feeds. In such a case switching back to breast milk should provide relief. You should burp the baby for at least 15-20 mins after each feed. All you need to do is to hold the baby head end elevated for this duration. The extra air taken causes distention and hence colics. Proper burping will ensure its escape and the milk will not regurgitate back from the stomach to the food pipe, thus providing relief. You can otherwise give Coliaid when needed. No specific timing for giving Colicaid. Give it when needed.
Also note that for a baby of this age, it is normal to pass stool several times a day or even after each feed. Alternatively the child may pass stool once in 10 days and that is normal too. Unless the stool is hard and pellet like, you need not grow concerned. It is also normal to pass green stool or a combination of yellow stool. The green colour occurs due to rapid transit through large intestine where the bile pigments do not get adequate time to convert to the yellow colour of stool. It is OK for some mucus to be there in the stool.

Thank you sir... the baby is under exclusive breast feeding... that’s the reason iam concerned about my diet... please suggest me proper diet which is helpful for my baby... or tell me the foods which will effect her adversly... is the pain also normal for her during excretion... she is going through alot of pain while excreting
Brief Answer:
No need to worry
Detailed Answer:
Since the child is exclusively breast feeding there is hardly anything to worry about. However, when you say excretion do you mean passing stool or passing urine? If the child strains during passing urine, it is not normal and could indicate urinary tract infection and therefore I would insist you to get a urine microscopy and culture sensitivity done. If the straining and pain is during passage of stool, there is nothing that you need to do if the child is exclusively breast fed. Such a thing can occur because breastmilk gets digested so well that there is not much left over to make bowel movements.
