Hi, Around April 2019 I Had Gotten Sick And Then

Question: Hi, around April 2019 I had gotten sick and then a few days after I started to develop these red, extremely itchy, inflamed rashes all over my body(it spread extremely quickly). I went to the hospital a day or two after because I couldn't stand the itching and after going three times someone finally gave me immune Suppressants (steroids). After they gave me steroids I felt better and it went away quickly. The cause was unknown they tested me for influenza but the resulting came back negative. The doctor at the hospital ruled it off as a viral infection and said it was a pruritis rash. I went to my local gp and we did some tests. My IgE count was abnormally high (around 1646 IU/mL after the rash went away). I went to an allergen specialist and I wasn't allergic to anything I also had fungal tests done and there was no fungal infection present. over a year's span I've been going and getting blood tests to look at my IgE level for the past year but it's is still abnormally high but it's dropping. I've recently had a test done right before coronavirus so around February 2020 and my results came back around 500 for my IgE levels (I got my results on the phone that's why I'm saying around). he said it's still high but there is nothing wrong and that's it's dropping extremely slowly because it was so high. No further tests have been done that's why I'm concerned and scared. I don't know if I should go somewhere else to get tho checked out or I should keep going and getting just the IgE count. I haven't developed any rashes since.

Brief Answer:
You may repeat a IgE test after 6 to 8 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hello Serra,

Thanks for posting your query on Ask a doctor panel.

Having gone through your query and seen the pictures uploaded by you , it looks like an allergic rash. Many a times a cause of allergy cannot be found and the rash disappears gradually. In your case it appears to be a viral infection. IgE levels rise in case of allergies. In your case the levels were very high because you had extensive lesions. It is now coming down though gradually and will soon be normal. Since you have no symptoms at present and you have already taken a course of steroids, nothing more needs to be done at present.

Just follow a healthy life style with some regular physical exercise, avoid smoking and any other substance abuse and avoid being over anxious.

You may repeat a IgE test after 6 to 8 weeks. This will allay all your fears. And we will know the latest IgE levels.

Hope I have been able to address your query. In case you have any more questions, do post them. I will be glad to answer.

Thanks

It's currently been a year it's still high but I'm happy that it is slowly but gradually going down. I have gotten the flu throughout the year after this incident and haven't had the rash come back. Is it okay if I continue to proceed with my normal life and not hold back on some things e.g. such as getting hyaluronic acid filler/dermal filler as I feel fine and it has been a year but the levels won't go down below normal until a really long time (probably a year or half a year at the rate that it's going down at right now)? Also, do you have any recommendations in terms of vitamins to help support my immune system?

Brief Answer:
Wait till next blood report and consult a dermatologist before restarting

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I would suggest that you should hold on with your filler treatment for some more time, say till your next report.Hopefully the next report will show IgE within the normal range. You may consult a dermatologist before restarting this filler treatment giving him all the details.

To boost immunity , you have to have a healthy lifestyle as I have mentioned above also. Consume a lot of colourful fruits and vegetables and nuts including seeds. Have adequate sleep and do some physical exercise regularly. You may take supplements of vitamin C and Zinc for some time.

Take care.
